Tottenham goalkeeper Heurelho Gomes is to undergo a scan on a groin injury after he fell awkwardly during his team's 1-0 win over Bolton on Saturday.
Spurs play Manchester City on Wednesday as both teams battle to finish fourth and qualify for the Champions League.
"Gomes's groin is sore," said Spurs manager Harry Redknapp. "He'll have a scan and see what the damage is. Hopefully he is OK."
Redknapp will bring in Ben Alnwick for the City game if Gomes is unavailable.
As well as the 23-year-old Alnwick, Redknapp also has the 36-year-old Jimmy Walker as a back-up goalkeeper.
Alnwick has made just two cup appearances for Spurs since joining from Sunderland in January 2007, but has had loan spells at Luton, Leicester, Carlisle and Norwich, while Walker has yet to make his debut after joining last summer.
Redknapp has ruled out trying to emulate City by signing a keeper on emergency loan after the Manchester club brought in Martin Fulop as cover for the injured Shay Given last week.
"If he isn't fit, Ben would play and Jimmy would be on the bench," added Redknapp.
Redknapp will ask League for 'two more keepers'
The Tottenham boss then joked: "Gomes felt his groin go - we will get on to the league to see if we can get two more goalkeepers. We have got four already but we will see if we can get a couple more."
Prior to the arrival of Fulop, City's only fit goalkeeper was the 23-year-old Faroe Island international Gunnar Nielsen.
But it was Fulop who played in Saturday's 3-1 win over Aston Villa and is set to continue against Spurs.
Tottenham currently occupy fourth spot, one place and one point clear of City, but the absence of the in-form Gomes would be a blow to their hopes of holding off Roberto Mancini's team.
"Gomes is looking a fantastic goalkeeper," said Redknapp. "He has everything and looks like the goalkeeper everyone was talking about before he came here from PSV Eindhoven."
Gomes, who made two excellent saves to deny Matthew Taylor during Saturday's match, appeared to pick up the injury as he dealt with a free-kick from the Bolton player in the closing minutes.
